Introduction
Iran continues to be at the epicenter of regional conflicts and with new developments on the military front seen to define changes in its military strategies and impact on this region’s geopolitics. Many developments and activities in Iran’s armed forces have hit the headlines recently starting with advanced defensive technologies to forming new alliances.
Air Defense Improvements
Of greater concern, Iran has managed to develop new configurations of its air defense systems that has attracted global attention. Iran’s military capability is also growing in the missile defense technology, as it has claimed to have recently conducted tests to improve its capacity to deal with aerial threats. Such improvements consist in better radar and missile equipment designed for air and ground detection.
I will discuss tensions with Israel and Hezbollah
There are f until today continuing hostilities between Hezbollah backed by Iran and Israel. Hezbollah has accused the Israeli forces of launching operations whose main objective is to demolish all the Hezbollah military formations in the southern region of Lebanon. Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups fired rockets in response, and tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have escalated since then. IDF have been de mining some of the region in Southern Lebanon while Iran continues to support the Hezbollah group which serves as an instrumental in maintaining Iranian influence in the region.
Targeting Iran-affiliated groups, US to carry out air raids.
There have been reports that the U.S. military has been launching attacks in the territory of Syria against the Iranian-backed militia. After attacks on the US personnel there have been airstrikes against militia objectives in the Deir ez-Zor province, to minimize potential future threats. The use of Iran through militia continues to be a subject of concern, and the U.S. Central Command suggests that the elimination of those forces is the only way to achieve stability in the whole of the region.
Sino-American and US-Russian (REAL) Naval Exercises
For its expansion of maritime security capacity Iran has held naval exercise with Russia and China. These exercises are also under the Maritime Security Belt Concept that seek to foster cooperation among these nations on the issue of protecting essential sea littoral sea lanes in the Gulf of Oman. This cooperation with these global players serves Iran’s end goal to display muscle and POWER besides seeking to preserve dominance in critical Maritime basins.
Increased Military Budget
Iran has increased its defense budget by 200% recently to display its plan of increasing its military power. This will probably enhance the development of missile systems and drone with additional resources on naval forces. The move is linked to Iran’s willingness to bolster its capability to defend itself and to expand influence in a volatile region of the world.
Cyber Warfare Capabilities
It has also extended its capabilities in the informational warfare with reports indicating Iran has shifted its capability to perform more cyber attacks on regional foes. Some of these capabilities have been steadily increasing in the country and this is well illustrated by the recent attacks on the infrastructure of rival countries. This is a new form of warfare in modern warfare whereby Iran is able to counter-power much more formidable armed forces without actually taking on these powers head-on.
Conclusion
Iran’s Military activities are still dynamic in view of the new Technologies, new strategic partnerships, and conflicts. Given the continued conflicts with Israel, the United States and surrounding nations, Iran’s defense tactics, will likely define the Middle East for the next several months. From the kind of missiles, its navy, or its capability in the cyber warfare-Iran is posing as one of the most powerful militaries in that region.
